Lots of us enjoy a great cocktail, beer, or glass of wine — and treating yourself to something you love can work wonders for your mood and overall mental health. However, overindulging in alcohol can have a few side effects beyond a pounding headache the next morning. Think vaginal dryness, discomfort, and
an increased risk of infections.
Not to worry, though. Our feminine health testing kits can help the moment you notice symptoms.
Way to be a Grinch.
Promise it’s not as bad as it sounds! Enjoying alcohol in moderation (defined by the National Institute of Health as no more than one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men) won’t likely result in any noticeable discomfort below the belt.
To be honest, topping off your eggnog a couple of times or reaching for that second glass of wine at the holiday office party this year probably won’t result in a yeast infection or any serious side effects down
there. But binge drinking or abusing alcohol can certainly adversely affect your vaginal health and pH balance.
Oops...I may have already overindulged. What now?
We get it—it’s a festive time of the year. You might not notice any change, but it helps to be prepared. Stock up on our feminine health kits now so that you can test (and get treatment, if necessary) if you start feeling any discomfort—whether it's unusual dryness, burning, discharge, or odor.
What am I testing for?
The symptoms we went over could indicate a range of vaginal infections, many of them easy to treat once they’re identified. Our kits screen for some of the most common, including UTIs, bacterial vaginosis, and yeast infections. They last for two years, too, so you can order ahead and be prepared if you develop symptoms in the future.
How does it work?
It’s much simpler than wrapping gifts, that’s for sure. All you have to do is scan the QR code on your test, and a proctor will explain how to collect and test a sample. You’ll then collect your sample privately in the comfort of your home and wait for the results. If your results indicate an infection, you can expect treatment sent to your pharmacy of choice the same day. And voila — goodbye, symptoms.
What if I test negative but still don’t feel 100% down there?
It happens. Sometimes, telehealth doesn't quite figure out what an in-person visit with your doctor can. If you're still feeling symptoms, discuss this with your doctor.
In the meantime, increase your H20 intake. Alcohol dehydrates our bodies, which can cause dryness in our vaginas. The sugar in alcohol can also trigger inflammation and bacterial growth — two critical ingredients for vaginal discomfort.
If this sounds like what you’re experiencing, abstain from drinking for a few days and drink plenty of (non-alcoholic) fluids to flush out your body.
Which kit is right for me?
eMed offers two kits for feminine health — our UTI kit and vaginal pH kit, which screens for bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections. All are common infections among women, so we recommend purchasing
both kits to cover all your bases.
